Pakula
Friendly Tournament
Port Stephens,
February
2004
Following
the resounding success of the Pakula Friendly Tournament over the past two
years, the organisers are striving to make the 2004 event the most
successful ever. For those that are not aware of the event, it is an
innovative gamefishing “get-together” where all participants strive to
help each other learn, whilst achieving the great benefit of raising money
for charity. It is with the help of companies and individuals willing to
donate items for our auction, that we hope to achieve this goal.
The
birthplace of the inaugural Pakula Friendly Tournament was the game
fishing website, The Marlin Bar (http://www.pakula.com/marlin/). It was
here in 2002, that after years of knowing names and not faces, a few
Marlin Bar members decided to get together for a few days fishing. Fueled
by Peter Pakula’s wife Jo and her incredibly brave recovery from Breast
Cancer, Peter and the organisers decided that rather than host a
traditional competitive tournament with rules and prizes, that there would
be neither of these things and that the anglers knowledge and charity
would be the winners. From this, the Pakula Friendly Tournament was born,
being held in Port Stephens in February 2002 & again in February 2003.
With anglers paying a small entry fee and an internet based auctions that
runs prior to each event, over $40,000 dollars has been raised over the
two years, every cent of which has been donated to the National Breast
Cancer Foundation and Camp Quality.
It is in
this area that we ask your support. This years’ Pakula Friendly
Tournament is again donating all money raised to charity. We are seeking
companies to donate auction items to assist us. Any item can be donated,
with all auction lots being listed on the Pakula Friendly Tournament
website. Bids are recorded by email and the auction closes prior to the
tournament weekend.
The
Pakula Friendly Tournament website is linked to the dedicated game fishing
discussion board, the Marlin Bar (http://www.pakula.com/marlin/), which
has over 650 members from 20 countries and receives more than 3000 unique
hits per month. Rarely do sponsors have the opportunity for exposure in
such a captive environment.
Should an organisation be able to
assist us with a donation, the item will appear on the Pakula Friendly
Tournament website at
http://www.pakula.com/PFT4/ and
the donator of the item will be listed. A hyperlink to the
organisation’s website can be provided. Again, this represents a
fantastic opportunity for exposure to a group of dedicated game fisherman
from all over the world, whilst at the same time assisting us in raising
money for charity.
We hope
that many support us and be part of this fantastic event. Should you
require any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact the
undersigned.
